HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

MC and I wish EVERYONE a VERY HAPPY 2015!!!!    THE BEST!!!

We returned from Nashville Sunday evening safe and sound after spending a wonderful Christmas with our son Steve, Angela, Isabelle and Angela's Mom, Gemma, visiting from Seoul.  Santa came through and the room was filled with wonders!

Yesterday was time to take down all of Christmas.  We had the flocked tree, all 9 feet of it, and by the time I removed all the gold ornaments, I was a 5ft flocked tree!!!  The nursery wraps the tree in a huge plastic covering that is rolled to the floor while using it.  When it's time to remove it, all you have to do is pull up the plastic and PRESTO  it's ready to carry out!!!!

New Year and time to give a little different look to the room! This gave me thought to soften some of the black in the room and switched out our black accent pillows for our soft blue ones.   We also put my treasured Mitchell  Gold /Bob Williams mirrored desk and "Too Sexy Sadie" chair in the space that the tree had occupied.    Good Look to start  2015!

Spending a quiet evening tonight.....remember we are "OLD"!   Or I could put it "We are  spending a quiet romantic evening !"

I HAVE MADE A COMMENT UNDER THE PUBLISHED COMMENTS.  TODAY IS JANUARY 18TH AND WE HAVE CHANGED THE PLACE FOR THE DRESS.  YES, I KNOW, WE ARE NUTS, BUT I LIKE IT IN THE MASTER BEDROOM AND I LOVE THIS MIRROR OVER THE FIREPLACE..

Please forgive me.......I do love the DRESS in both places.  Maybe I will change it out every now and then just for fun  !!!!

A DAY OF CHRISTMAS SPIRIT AT OLDE TOWN GRAYSON

Today was a huge day for Olde Town Grayson.

THE FIRST

ANNUAL 

HOLIDAY TOUR OF HOMES

Five very gracious, charming, and pretty "daring" Residents, opened their homes for our First Annual Tour of Homes.  We hope many, many will follow in the years ahead!

I have organized many Tours over the past 7 years and this one, the smallest one to date, was by far 

THE BEST

Everyone, all the residents, guests, and all the fabulous Homeowners who opened their homes, were jewels to work with!!!!

It proceeded without one hick-up!   Quite a feat I must say!

Everyone had a fun, great time.  We ended the afternoon at our Model Home which was overflowing with yummies.....lots of chocolates!!!  Thanks to our gracious Sales Associate, Meg Thompson,  who donated her time and efforts to make the day complete.    I was in Heaven!

A $95.39 DINING ROOM!!!

MC and I have moved a few things around.....nothing new there!

But this time we have "transformed" our  covered Terrace into our "new"

Dining Room!!

....Ta Dah...$95.39...the cost of Ballard Design's Suzanne Kasler's indoor/outdoor
7'10" x 10'10" rug!!!

We had the table and the chairs from our Bucket List home!  MC made the table when we moved into the BLH.  The table was against a wall in the Master Bedroom, but really had no "purpose".....EPIPHANY......make the Terrace a Dining Room. 

Yesterday we had torrential rains and the entire "room" remained DRY!!!!

In the Spring we hope to add indoor/outdoor drapery panels on the ends and in the center.  Along with the rug, it will add  softness to the hard surfaces.  We might have our dinner out there this evening...it's 70+  here in Atlanta today!!

Of course when one thing moves...everything moves.   We had to add something to the wall where we had the table and this is what we came up with...

With the white slipper chairs moving to the Master Bedroom it left some "holes" in the Great Room.  

Did some moving and came up with this arrangement.

Now we are going to seriously start our Christmas decor!   We picked out our tree Saturday and with the help of our dear, dear neighbor, we will pick it up with his truck on Wednesday,

Our Community is very small compared to Sun City.  We will have around 120 homes when it's built out.  But...there are 5 residents brave enough to volunteer their homes for Olde Town Grayson's first Holiday Tour of Homes on December 14th.  I am looking forward to the afternoon and will have my camera in tow!!!

Well how about this!  It was a total surprise to me!   I was waiting for November 16th!
Just got word from Meg Thompson, our Site Sales Agent, that it was in today's paper!
So....
You don't hear from me for weeks and now two days in a row!!!!
I hope you aren't "over" it all, but I had to post this!!!!

In their 55 years together, Steve and Patty Day have lived in more than 10 states and 35 homes. Five years ago, they moved from high-rise condominiums in Charlotte, N.C., to Sun City Peachtree, an active adult community in Griffin. As the development grew, they decided to buy a new home in Olde Towne Grayson, a 120-home neighborhood in suburban Atlanta.
Steve, 76, a retired restaurant manager, and Patty, 74, a retired real estate agent who blogs about interior design (PattysEpihonies.Blogspot.com), chatted about their three-bedroom home.
Q: What were you looking for?
Steve: We wanted something closer to shops, restaurants and amenities. We can walk to Kroger if we need.
Patty: We also wanted something in the same price range and square footage as before — a garage, at least two bedrooms, two baths and a den.
Q: How did you move on this home?
Steve: We drove up to look at the community and immediately knew. We absolutely had no intention of buying that day. I didn’t even bring a checkbook. But we got here, talked to the agent and knew this was the place. One of our bank branches happened to be in Stone Mountain, so we put the contract down that day. Patty spent time choosing the flooring, paint and fixtures while I got the check for the deposit, and it was a done deal in less than four hours.
Q: What do you love about the house?
Patty: In our last home, we had just installed a walk-in shower with a frameless glass door, and this one came with it. We also had French doors that led to a terrace, and this one came with that as well. We didn’t lose the two big things we looked forward to and had just finished.
Q: What have you added so far?
Patty: I like to style the bookshelves and tabletops with the items we’ve collected over 55 years. We also like to feature our granddaughter’s art wherever we have space. She preserved our family’s christening dress from the 1890s, and we hung it in our bedroom.
Steve: It’s a fantastic family heirloom. Patty’s mother was christened in it, and our kids and grandkids were christened in it. You can still see the beautiful lacework, and we’re glad she preserved the brittle material after 100 years.
Q: Tell us about your blog.
Patty: I started it six years ago in Charlotte. It was my granddaughter’s idea because we’re always moving the furniture and getting crazy ideas. I usually have the epiphany and put Steve to work in creating it. People know him as MC – Master Carpenter, Master Chef, Master Carver – and he gets fan mail.
Q: Do you have a tip for buyers?
Steve: There’s no such thing as the perfect house. We’ve discovered that for the past 36 homes. You’ve got to make compromises. You can look at 200 homes and never find exactly what you want, but if you can get eight of 10 items, you are ahead of the game.

SMALL BREAK FROM SEMI RETIREMENT!

I  mentioned when I last left you, that if something of interest came up....I would do a Post.
We have moved a few things and it was suggested they were Post Worthy!!!

As with all "moves",  one thing leads to another and so a number of objects moved!

The FIRST,  and the one that started the entire "event," was removing the large TV that was over the fireplace.  It came about, quite by chance.  I always preferred an art piece over the fireplace but couldn't figure out where to put the TV .  I visited a neighbor and noticed she had an  awesome painting over the fireplace.  We have the same model home,  so I asked where she put their TV?   She explained they have  one in their  bedroom,  another one in her husband's den and one in their guest room.  She bought a lovely chaise and a recliner  so they can watch TV together  in their bedroom.  Our bedrooms are quite large, about 14' x 19', allowing lots of space for this.

MC was "in" just not into watching TV in our bedroom.  He suggested we put it in our spare room that we use when we have guests.  There's a small TV,  sofa, one section of the IKEA wall shelving, and a large chair.  If we have overnight guests they sleep in our new Frontgate EZ bed!  

We moved MC's white Stressless chair into the room, and put the large TV where the small one was!  It works great!  The room is small, but it's cozy and we can actually see the TV!  It's only a 40" screen so watching it in the Great Room wasn't perfect.  We talked about getting a larger screen so we could really see the picture from all the areas in the space.

BUT, I'm keeping the best part for now. 

We hung the large black and white art piece that Erica did for us over the fireplace

and

Put our Daikoku on the mantle.  Daikoku is the Japanese God of Wealth, Prosperity and Patron Deity of Agriculture.  Our son Steve, gave it to us for Christmas a few years back.  He  purchased it in Tokyo in an antique shop.  It was hanging over a doorway to a home at some point years ago in Japan.

I am so pleased with our Great Room.  Why didn't I think of that before!!!!

The small TV is now in the kitchen.  Comcast is coming out on Wednesday to hook up a new outlet.  We decided, for fun,  to try the coffee pot on the zinc table that's in between the IKEA shelving.  It might go back to the kitchen counter, but I'm trying it out here for a few days.  Handy having the coffee right at the table!  (Like a morning test!)  I have the perfect lamp that can go on the table if the coffee pot doesn't work out.

MC is "playing" with a new Little People, but is no way near finished.  He bought a new special tool and is enjoying trying it out.

 OH

What replaced DAIKOKU ?  He was on the console in our foyer and now......

ANTIQUE FOO DOGS 

 The Foo Dogs were also a Christmas gift from Steve!  They came with papers!!

  

They are Certified Authentic pieces that were made in China during the Ming Dynasty dating 1368-1644A.D.  We have the papers to prove it!!

Steve and his family are now living in Nashville so I guess we won't be  receiving anymore treasures from Asia!!

I'm doing a Post in November..... an interesting piece to write about on November 16th!
