A SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM

IT WAS RIGHT IN MY FACE....FINALLY HIT ME!!!

Sometimes the little things are there, and you never see them. For months I have been trying to "accessorize" the console table in our Master Bedroom.

We have ALL our clothing in the closet. No need for dressers or chests! I put a glass and metal console table in the bedroom. Nothing "worked" as accessories!
I tried boxes, candles, the huge Grecian statue.....I thought I had tried it all.

Then, the other day, I realized the family pictures in MC's library were growing and growing and very crowded!

EPIPHANY

I tried a few on the console and WOW they looked OK. The only problem .... the old frames looked a little "sad"! I got out my magic, felt, gold, pen and made them..... GOLD.......IS THERE ANOTHER COLOR?????

IT WORKED!

The pictures fit the room. Private areas of your home are always the best rooms to put family pictures.



Update on the "Dumbo's. They haven't moved!!!!

What has moved?

THE WING BACK CHAIRS

Switched them out...........the one in the Great Room is now in the Master Bedroom, and the one in the Master Bedroom, is now in the Great Room.

The smartest thing I have done is buy furniture that can go in ANY room..... Except for the beds!

Chairs, sofas, lamps, tables, and most of the accessories..... look "At Home" in any room!!!!!

FABULOUS IDEAS......

Pat in her "Morning Room"

Tonight Pat Miker was the hostess for our DWTS group. I was so taken with her design ideas......AWESOME!!!!

This Blog is based on Interior Design and I have to share Pat's home with you all.
Her ideas are "Out of the Box". Very refreshing and ingenious.

Pat has taken a fabulous approach to the use of space in her beautiful Cumberland Hall Model.

CUMBERLAND HALL MODEL

Pat is photographed in her "Morning Room". It's the space designated as the Kitchen Eating Nook in the Model.... Pat has turned it into a welcoming, comfortable sitting area. She said when she first lived in the Atlanta area, everyone had Morning Rooms off their kitchen. What a unique use of this space.

But.....what really grabbed my attention was what she did with the Library!!!
She made it her DINING ROOM !!!!!! French Doors, marvelous chandelier ! It WORKS!!!!




For over a year I worked as "Cookie Lady" in the Model Homes. I spent most of my time in the Cumberland Hall Model. It is one of the most popular models and I found it interesting asking the buyers how they planned on using the different spaces!!! Not one ever came up with using the Library as a Dining Room!!!! I LOVE IT!!!


Pat also has a gorgeous crystal chandelier over her Master Bed. Now you know I love that!!!!!

Another innovative idea was adding up-lighting on the top of the kitchen cabinets. The picture is dark, but hopefully you will see the effect. And..... guess where her office is????? She converted her hall coat closet into a fabulous office space!! Very clever!



EVERYONE WAS SO INTERESTED IN HOW PAT DESIGNED AND USED HER SPACES.

THAT'S WHAT MAKES VISITING EACH OTHER'S HOMES SO MUCH FUN.

MC AND I , ALONG WITH THE MASONS, WILL RUN THE HOLIDAY TOUR OF HOMES THIS COMING DECEMBER. WE WILL HAVE APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 12 HOMES. I ASSURE YOU THAT THE "GUESTS" WILL BE MORE INTERESTED IN SEEING THE DESIGN IDEAS, THAN THE CHRISTMAS DECORS!!! WE FOUND THIS THE CASE LAST YEAR WHEN OUR HOME WAS ON THE TOUR. WE HAD ONE TREE, A WREATH OVER THE FIREPLACE AND A WREATH ON THE FRONT DOOR....THAT WAS THE EXTENT OF THE CHRISTMAS DECOR.....



CHERYL WAS THE PROUD WINNER FROM OUR DECEMBER PARTY. It is a great HONOR..... TO BE THE..... WEARER OF THE SASH!!!!!!

ELAINE AND LINDSAY HAVE FRIENDS VISITING FROM PAWLEYS ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, SHIRLEY AND MERWIN MOORE. IT WAS SO NICE MEETING THEM.


IT WAS A GREAT EVENING.....WE ALL HAD A BALL.

NOW, WE WILL BE WAITING FOR PAT TO COUNT THE VOTES!!! WHO WILL WEAR THE SASH NEXT MONTH!!!!!!!!

The Logo is also PERFECT for us Dolcetto-ans to consider for our "FUTURE" SIGN at the entry to our neighborhood!!!!!

What's even better......they taste DELICIOUS! Especially with the Dolcetto wine!


Tomorrow night the Dolcetto-ans have the January DWTS PARTY!!

THE HERD HAS ARRIVED

A SERENDIPITY EVENT......

Never did I ever imagine that we would have ELEPHANTS FROM SAIGON in our family again.

In 1988 we gave the ones MC carried home in the late 60's in the cargo section of a C124, to Steve. In fact, they are now in his apartment in Seoul!!!! A round trip voyage!!!!

Last month one of our great Dolcetto-ans, Kasey, (who has ones very similar to the ones we had) mentioned that a couple who lives on the Reservation had some of these jewels. And......they wanted to get rid of them.....

After all the Holidays were over, Kasey called Donna to see if she and Tom, (retired AF, of course!) still wanted to part with the DEARS!! Sure enough they did, and Kasey immediately contacted me......yesterday!!!!!

It didn't take me long........MC and I picked them up this afternoon!!!

AND HERE THEY ARE.......4 OF THEM!!!!!!





They are white.... with gold and blue accents.....

PERFECT.....PERFECT.....PERFECT!!!!!!!

The ones we had were all green. I have never seen white ones before. It's just Serendipity that we have them in our White and Gold home!!!!

Now, follow these little guys as they tramp through the Bucket List House ...and even the Terrace!!!!
You know they will pop up in many different places with many different uses as time goes by................

THIS IS A STRETCH......

WHAT CAN I SAY.....

MC hasn't finished his latest creation. I am at a loss!!! It's been almost a week ....and nothing to report!!!!

So, I am really pushing it!!! a post showing the new arrangement on our dining table. I know, not spectacular........

We have a bamboo plant that was a gift from Steve and Angela at our 50th Party. It has tripled in size, and has become a challenge to find a place for it to "fit" as it grows.........


I found a solution, for now........ I will have to watch it daily ......the candles are pretty close to some of those leaves!!!!!


MAYBE, JUST MAYBE......we will have an addition to the Bucket List House over the weekend....

TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT "PIECES" BECOME ONE!

I have to go back to 2001 when we lived in our PierPointe condo in Norfolk. We had a second bedroom that we used as MC's study and as our guest room.

Enter IKEA, yes, that fabulous, ingenuous home furnishing company. We needed storage, lots of storage and BOY did we get it!

MC and I drove the 3 1/2 hours to the nearest Ikea in the suburbs of DC. We came home in our Acura Hatchback stacked with seven plus huge boxes. I believe I sat on a few in the backseat. Our saving grace was the Sun Roof! The only way the large boxes would fit, was to have them stick out the roof! And it was raining......
Somehow we survived the drive and so did the cardboard boxes!!!!

The hardest part was carrying them from the garage, into the elevator and then down the hall into our unit!!!!! Those boxes are heavy, very heavy!!!!

For the next few days, MC, tools in hand, assembled, perfectly all seven "pieces"
(there were only three "extra" items that simply didn't seem to "fit" anywhere!)






Now, jump ahead in time to 2007......

We are living in our City, Highrise, Condo in Charlotte. The BIG DOWNSIZE move. We downsized to 1096 sq.ft.!!!. We gave away our large, curved sofa, club chair with matching ottoman, dining table and a few side chairs, just to mention a few pieces!!!! I often wonder: "WHAT WERE WE THINKING?"
Now .......we have a small apartment size sofa and matching chair. We can't entertain more than one person at a time!!!!! What to do???

This is the period Kenneth Brown, a California Designer, was a friend who I could go to for Design assistance!!! I sent him pictures of the space. He suggested a large bench that could serve as a coffee table and extra seating....and he said: "Patty is has to be RED"!!!!! We headed out for such an item and this is what found!




PERFECTION.......

Our "Highrise" Life didn't last too long.....in fact barely a year!!!!

In June of 2008 we were in Sun City Peachtree, in a 1700 square feet house!!!
The Great Room was 18" x 18"..... and guess what? We needed larger furniture and more of it!!!! Apartment size sofa, chair and small dining table......
PERFECT pieces to give to the newlyweds, Erica and Adam!!!

Our new Great Room furniture went great with our RED bench, BUT no one sat on it and no one would put a glass or cup on it......Lots of Form.....but no Function!




SEATING.....OH BOY DID WE HAVE PLACES TO SIT!!!!

We bought a coffee table and put the bench in the guest bedroom.

BUT USEFUL!
